Power of Attorney for Pensions and Benefits

Overview

This appoinment grants authorisation to a trusted individual (the Attorney) to act on behalf of a social security beneficiary. The Attorney can handle matters related to pensions and Social Security benefits, generally due to the beneficiary being unable to attend personally at a servizz.gov hub.

What you’ll get

The appointed Attorney will represent the beneficiary in dealings with the Department of Social Security. This includes managing pension claims, benefit applications, and other related matters for the below, whereby the Agent can only request if attending at a servizz.gov hub.

  • Updating the beneficiary’s contact details as per current Identity Card details of the beneficiary.
  • Updating the beneficiary’s banking details, as long as the IBAN is related to the beneficiary.
  • Changing the payment method of the beneficiary from cheque method to direct bank deposit.
  • Submitting a benefit/pension application on behalf of the beneficiary.
  • Querying about the status of a benefit.
  • When a beneficiary passes away and there is a pending overpayment, the Agent is contacted to be informed about this and how the payment should be repaid.

Eligibility

General eligibility criteria:

  • A trusted person can act as an Agent for a Beneficiary, who then must be authorised through the Power of Attorney Document.
  • The beneficiary for whom the Agent is responsible for, needs to be over eighteen (18) years of age, unless otherwise specified by applicable laws, regulations or court order.

General documentation:

  • The appointment of an Agent must be authenticated by a recommender, such as a Priest, a Medical Practitioner or Specialist, a University Graduate, a Member of Parliament, a Bank Manager, a Public Officer not below the grade of Principal, or a Police Officer not below the grade of Inspector.
