Policy Regulating the Retention of Digitised and Physical documents held by the Department of Social Security

This Policy is aimed at regulating the retention, maintenance and disposal of documentation, both personal and other, within the Department for Social Security as provided in the Social Security Act (Cap. 318.), and in consonance with the principles of data protection legislation, and other legal provisions in Maltese Law, particularly the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679(GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (Cap.586.) regulating the processing of personal data. Report non-compliance with the provisions of the Social Security Act (Cap. 318.)

The Benefits Compliance Directorate is entrusted to ensure that social benefits and services reach the intended beneficiaries.  The Directorate investigates all the reports that it receives where it is alleged that social benefits and/or services, granted or received, are not in compliance with the provision of the applicable legislation. If you suspect someone receiving social benefits which are not in compliance with the provisions of the Social Security Act, you can bring this to the attention of the Directorate by submitting a confidential request for investigation here​​​​​​​​​
