01/01/2025 | Latest News

The Information Management Unit (IMU), in collaboration with the Foundation for Information Technology Accessibility (FITA), has successfully conducted a comprehensive review of the Social Security website’s accessibility features. This rigorous evaluation resulted in a score of 89%, reflecting the website’s adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Levels A and AA.

These guidelines are crucial for making web content accessible to individuals with different abilities. By meeting these standards, the Social Security website ensures an inclusive experience for all users and enables effective access and navigation of online content.

The review process involved a detailed assessment of various aspects of the website. Key elements such as text readability, keyboard navigation, and the provision of alternative text for images were meticulously evaluated. These components are vital for ensuring that users with different abilities can interact with the website without barriers.

Achieving compliance with WCAG 2.2 Levels A and AA signifies a significant milestone in the IMU’s ongoing efforts to enhance digital accessibility. The high score of 89% not only demonstrates the website’s current accessibility standards but also highlights areas for continuous improvement.

As a result of this successful review, the Social Security website is now authorised to display the FITA compliance banner. This signifies the website’s commitment to accessibility and serves as a reassurance to users that their needs are being prioritised.

The collaboration between the IMU and FITA has set a benchmark for the Social Security website to provide an inclusive and user-friendly experience for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
