Child in Care Benefit – Residential Care Service


A Foster Care Allowance is awarded to authorised fosterer carers providing a foster care service to a child.

Moreover, this allowance is paid until a child reaches 21 years of age.

The payment for this allowance is issued every 13 weeks in advance.

General eligibility criteria:

  • Residential homes providing residential service to children, receive Child in care Benefit – Foster Care Allowance only when approved by the ​Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights

  • Application endorsed by Appoġġ with children’s details (in case of new admissions)

How to apply

Fill in and submit the application online.

The application must be submitted within 6 months from initialization of fostering as stipulated by the Social Security Act (Cap. 318.). The allowance, or part of it, may be forfeited if the application is submitted late.
