Registration for Social Worker Warrant

Overview

The Social Work Profession in Malta is regulated by the Social Work Profession Act (Cap. 468.) of the Laws of Malta when determining whether a prospective candidate is eligible to practise  social work in Malta. Approved academic qualifications by the Social Work Profession Board, qualify a person to be employed as a Social Worker. This practice will make the person a candidate to become a warranted Registered Social Worker as stipulated in the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility

General eligibility criteria:


Persons may qualify for the issue of a warrant on the basis that such person:

 

  • is a Maltese citizen, or is otherwise permitted to work in Malta under any law; and

  • is of good conduct; and

  • is in possession of the Honours Degree in Social Work conferred by the University of Malta or of another professional qualification as the Board may deem equivalent; and

  • satisfies the Board that he has received adequate experience in the practice of the profession of social work for an aggregate period of at least two years fulltime or its equivalent in part-time following the completion of such degree or such other professional qualification under the supervision of a registered social worker.” (Social Work Profession Act, 2003, Article 3(3)).


The copies of the original documents submitted with the application are to be dated and signed off by a professional, stating on documents that these are a true copy of the original documents.

 

Any foreign documentation presented, needs to be translated by an accredited translator. 


The MQRIC certificate needs to certify that the academic qualification was awarded from a recognised institution and that the level achieved was that of Level 6 or higher.
