Increased Severe Disability Assistance
Overview
An Increased Severe Disability Assistance may be awarded to a person who is sixteen (16) years of age and over and is absolutely unable to work.
What you’ll get
The Increased Severe Disability Assistance is paid every four (4) weeks in advance.
A beneficiary will be entitled to Free Medical Aid (Pink Form).

Eligibility
General eligibility criteria:
- The applicant is sixteen (16) years and over.
- The applicant has been suffering from the disability prior to reaching the age of sixty (60) years.
- A Multi-Disciplinary Board will decide whether the case falls within the medical parameters for payment of this assistance following an assessment based on the Barthel Index and/or an assessment on Table 10 of the Impairment Tables Regulations.
- The applicant’s disability is rated 0 – 9 on the Barthel Index or a score of more than fourteen (14) points on Table 10 of the Impairment Tables Regulations.
- The applicant is absolutely unable to work.
- The application for an Increased Severe Disability Assistance is not Means Tested.
- As from January 2024, persons may also be deemed eligible for this assistance if they apply for Severe Disability Assistance and have obtained a percentage of seventy-five percent (75%) or over, after being examined by the Inter-Professional Board utilising the International Classification of Functioning, Disability,and Health (ICF).
- The provisions of Article 90 of the Social Security Act (Cap. 318.) “Duplicate Rights” apply, wherein a beneficiary cannot be in receipt of two (2) pensions; benefits; assistances or allowances concurrently but to the most beneficial pension; benefit; assistance or allowance.
